We’re delighted to share some exciting news! Shara Community Gardens has received two grants this year that will help us transform our much-loved community green space into a place that’s more inclusive, accessible and welcoming for all.
Earlier this year, the Ingrained Foundation awarded us a generous grant that is making this upgrade possible. With their support, we’ll be able to install new raised garden beds and carry out important structural updates across the gardens. This means saying goodbye to some of the old wooden beds and replacing them with new (or recycled) raised beds, including:
- Two taller raised beds designed for better access by older and less-mobile members of our community
- Two lower raised beds that will give children from Ocean Shores Preschool the chance to grow, learn and connect with nature alongside us
These upgrades will make the gardens a more engaging, hands-on space for people of all ages and abilities.
More recently, we were fortunate to receive additional funding through the Byron Shire Council’s Community Initiatives Program. This support will help us complete the project and continue to improve the gardens as a thriving green hub for our local community.
We are so grateful to the Ingrained Foundation and Byron Shire Council for their generous support, and to Seed Northern Rivers for assisting us in securing this funding.
