On 7 May, Shara Community Gardens hosted “Music in the Gardens”, which brought together local community members for an afternoon of music, food and fun. The event showcased the talent of musicians Kelly Brouhaha and Phil & Tilley, while the Lotus Food Van provided delectable food – all free of charge. With fantastic weather and a thriving plant stall, the event was a delight for all involved.

No community event is complete without delicious food, and the Lotus Food Van certainly delivered! It quickly became a popular spot, with attendees relishing the opportunity to savour the culinary delights on offer.
The excitement didn’t stop at the music and delicious food—there was also a thrilling Scavenger Hunt that had over 40 children of all ages exploring the garden and solving riddles (sometimes with the support of parents and older kids!) to win a reward. It added an extra layer of adventure to the day and showcased the garden’s features to even the youngest participants. It was a true testament to the inclusive and family-friendly nature of the event.
“Music in the Gardens” had invaluable support from the Byron Shire Council and the NSW Government. Their sponsorship made it possible to organise this event free of charge. This not only ensured the event’s success but also highlighted the significance of fostering community resilience and engagement, especially after the last few years.
A big thanks to the musicians, Lotus Van, Shara Gardens Committee and the local community for making this such a wonderful event! See you next time!
